 What do we need to maintain a road bike and MTB

Sooner or later all the riders want to run from the major maintenance. Not only is the passion and love for cycling to push this step, but also the undeniable satisfaction in play from if the maintenance on your bike.

In addition good knowledge of what to do and where to intervene serves to prevent any technical problems and have a bike perfectly in place. Of course it is unthinkable to have a real shop, but it is also true that the most popular tools and really necessary for the simple fan is easy to find, then we will proceed according to their passion to enrich their work station in accordance with their needs. Let's see what we need:

Trestles workshop

Trestles workshop are tools that allow us to work with peace and security on any bike. Veloman, Elite, Park Tool and Bicisupport offer different models. The important thing is that they are stable, provide good support for the bike, that does not ruin the frame and are also easily foldable, unless wanting to make a genuine factory building. Less effective the various stands on the floor, useful for cleaning the bike, for its storage, but not for many other operations, such as replacing the wheels or whatever.

Torque Wrench

The wrenches allow us to close the various bolts to the proper strength, are not indispensable, but become so when we reach the ultimate perfection. The best may be USAG and Beta.

Pump factory and for MTB suspension

Should already be in the house, a pump that allows to achieve optimum inflation pressure. To which the Mtb pump for the pressure of the fork and shock is a must.

Tools

The list of tools is really long, just take a look at Park Tool catalogue, whose instruments are certainly fine, to understand the greatness, but the fan does not need all, we see what can be tools base to start doing a little maintenance on their own:

-Sockets 8, 9, 10 mm

-Universal key adjustable 22mm max

-Hex wrenches from 1.5 to 8, 10mm

-Screwdriver Set plates and cross

-Pull spokes

-Tire extractor

-Pedal Keys 15, 16, 17mm

-Chain puller

- Freehub Extractor, Campagnolo or Shimano

-Open Keys by 13, 14, 15, 16mm

-Key whip

-Crank puller

-Set of tire repair

-Set Torx keys (for Mtb disc)

-Open Key by 30, 32, 36, 40 (old series of steering)

The above is a basic list which should then be enriched to suit your ability and to a group that is assembled their bikes.

Also, for cleaning, is to add:

-Set of brushes for cleaning the bike

-Detergent for cleaning-frame

-Detergent to clean the chain

-Grease

-Oil chain

-Oil purpose spray (WD40)

- Maxi-roll of paper towels

In commerce there are several boxes of tools that provide a first base and can be considered valid for more than a routine maintenance and build up a first base to start with. Gradually, then buy only the tools that you really need.
