The new frame Perfecta

After two years since the debut Perfecta frame is revised in several places, but not upset. It 'been confirmed Italiy Made in production and implementation by wrapping the pipes, but solutions that ensure a high quality level. The used carbon is high modulus, but going from T900 to T800 type (but the frame is a written decals with T700, certainly an error because the model being tested is a pre chassis series, produced for the last test before the final put into production).

With the new carbon were also reviewed sections of the tubes, particularly the oblique and the horizontal. The oblique loses its conical shape to switch to a regular round section diameter less than about 2 millimeters compared to the previous model. Same reduction of the chamber for the top tube, while the vertical pipe has the same size as the old model. Substantially the same area of the bottom bracket, which has a small bandage, when compared with some recent achievements of the competition. Changes completely, however, the rear, which is extremely compact, with the wheel that runs only a few millimeters from the vertical pipe, but with more crushed and sheaths thick, produced by Deda Acciai ever. Another important difference is in the range of steering, with the presence of different bearings, 1/4 in and 1/8 above. The fork, the one you see in the picture is not definitive, it remains the weak point of this model will be adopted by Deda weighing nearly 600 grams, a pity because it grieves a really well-built frame. But the fork on photo will be ready on demand. The bike has the photos in the integrated seat post, one of several options available, together with the BB30 bottom bracket and on the achievement measure and the possibility to ask for Fulcrum's wheels set. Confirmed the presence of women dedicated to geometry and geometry of double choice or traditional compact (sloping). In terms of weight, however, does not appear to be major changes, in fact the test bike weighs 7.4 kg, compared with 7.9 kg recorded on the old model, but some things should be considered: the bike in a test tube, not definitive, the weight of about 350 grams (540 weight of the fork on the old model), the seat has a weight of 125 grams (300 grams Lady of the saddle model 2008) the integrated seatpost is lighter than the seatpost Deda Ultra (by weight of over 300 ...), grams for the same stem (60 grams saved in the configuration of our test) and in the wheels, only the group Centaur is a gram lighter than the bike in 2010 and has a horizontal length of pipe greater than 2 centimeters. Anyway the Company declares an inferor weight of 80 grams. Made all the necessary calculations the difference in weight is very poor.

The model on test

The model on test is not definitive 100%, the range is not what will be finally adopted and the assembly is special. The wheels are Caesar Viner Carbon with carbon rim for tubular, while the latter are the Deda Tre Olimpico. The integrated seatpost and the saddle is a lightweight Selle Italy SLR Kit Carbonio. Always at the top leadership group, with the stem Deda Zero 100, and handlebar in the homonymous profile anatomical Deda Zero 100, both in aluminium, the fold with a triple thickness profile, are characterized by extreme lightness and high stiffness, not surprisingly are among the most used by professionals. For the group, however, has adopted the new model with Campagnolo Athena crankset with 11-speed aluminium. A group is not particularly light, but access to 11 speed and shows how to create a bike Perfecta high price / weight. As always customization in the purchase of the bike is total, then the assembly in the photos is only an example and not binding. The pedals that can be seen in photos are not as standard, while the door is a water bottle Elite carbon. The weight of the bike, without pedals, is 7.4 kg in size 54 (size horizontal center-center).

Road test

The new bike we were pleased to note that, even if it were a specimen pre set "very experienced", the quality of implementation of the frame is left on a very high level, with conjunctions perfect, excellent paint and decals all protected transparent. Excellent guided steps of cables and beat the chain transparency. Unfortunate that the fork is not one that will be adopted as standard, even aesthetically integrates seamlessly with the frame. Also aesthetically pleasing graphics. Excellent assembly and selection of components with which it was proposed bike, the only crank out of place in the aluminium, carbon Athena model would best enjoyed by the whole frame. Always the best choice of the group guide Deda Zero Cento, by weight and stiffness among the best ever. Beautiful port Elite carbon bottle. The wheels Viner Carbon Caesar (made by Marchisio) are an excellent complement to a quality bike and substance. Riding it appreciates the new ergonomic controls Campagnolo and good conformation of the fold, the seat is stiff and sporty, but not because it would assume its minimum weight. The fact that there is a saddle minimal, a group guide and an aluminium seatpost integrated affects, obviously, comfort on uneven, but not so obvious compared to the old model. Those looking for a comfortable bike, will do well to abandon the integrated seat post and use a good carbon seatpost, as well as take a seat by the greater thickness. Apart from the minor comfort on uneven, for the rest good ergonomics of the controls allows long trips relaxing, with an optimal handlebar, which is at the top to bottom, fluid and precise command in action, with a reduced excursion of levers. The Athena Group has delivered an excellent development with the passage of fast and accurate, good smoothness and good fluidity of the crank. Good braking power of the command with a very powerful front and rear flexible, but less aggressive. The sample in our possession was not a perfect modulability brake due to the brake shoes are not specific for carbon rims, an oversight due to the haste with which it was assembled the model. The fact that even with the chain in the draft report of steps are always accurate and fast. Excellent ergonomics of the new controls. Carbon wheels Caesar, already tested on Viner Maxima, yet have shown their worth, being rigid, sliding, and read. Are not comparable to the Campagnolo Bora Ultra, of course, but they are very good wheels. The only flaw is that it does not have a value on the market and this should be borne in mind with a view to their replacement by a pair of wheels even more efficient. The problem is related with the Caesar Carbon (wheels are really good), but becomes more important with the wheels Caesar (the most used, aluminium and much heavier), many people, shortly after, might feel the need to replace them, but it will be very difficult to "square" on the market. The tubular taken on our model there appeared to be valid, with good fluidity and a good grip in all situations, there is no possibility of the test in the wet. The new chassis Perfecta, without overturning the previous model, we felt it was more rigid and responsive of the predecessor. Even with different and better wheels, the current has a rear disk and more responsive and even the new steering helps to improve the overall stiffness. It can, therefore, to be faster in raises and changes of rhythm, out of the curves or launched in the plains, as well as uphill. The new series of steering gives greater rigidity and precision to the steering, with insertions in faster cornering. It improves the stability and especially on fast downhill performance, where the bike is off most of the previous model, as well as in fast changes of direction. This behaviour, however, has an important role in the fork on the model adopted in the test, well, hard and light, would be the perfect fork for this frame, that sin will not be used on the model of the series (no doubt for reasons of cost as a model high range). This means that in part would be mortified the advantage of the new generation of steering, increasing the cornering behaviour of the new model at a level similar to the old: a real missed opportunity. For this reason, who wants a better bike should be ask for the fork on picture. For the rest, though, as we have said, there was no overturn the new model is generally better than the old one, but without too much away, small differences do not justify the replacement.

Conclusions

The market demands ever new, but two years are few and far can hardly be improved without a bend. Viner preferred continuity and while overall renewal of the frame Perfecta, the new model settings and it repeats character. E 'from a frame of good driving skills, with a high precision when cornering, excellent stability on fast, an excellent sense of security in all conditions. The new model has added a greater reactivity of the rear stays and increased rigidity of the chassis. Small improvements which, however, the new chassis to be faster is that in the plains and raises up. The new set of differential steering would have improved the speed and accuracy of placement in turn, improving the performance down on fast stretches and guided, but we believe that much about is the fork on the model adopted in the test and that the range of series (similar in weight to that adopted on the old model) benefits will be very minimal if not zero. Sorry, also, that has not worked much to reduce the weight of the chassis, something strongly felt by the fans. There remains the pleasure of a bike that, as the old model, well suited to any situation, both of which path style of pedalling. Comfortable long-distance (simply choose the appropriate components and is one of the best bike for that matter), can have the stiffness and responsiveness of the most typical racing: an enviable compromise which fortunately was not affected (it is easier to ruin a model successful, that improvement). Overall performance of the new model are not so obvious from the old, so the owners of 08 Perfecta can "rest easy". Who, however, the Viner Perfecta had not yet thought of, or had not yet been able to get it, you can safely go, in what remains one of the best in its price range.

Price

The price has not yet been set, if you do not deviate too much from the old model (1400-1500 Euro frame kit consisting of frame, fork and steering series) remains a good choice, even under the realization Made in Italy.

Positive aspects

Construction quality of the frame

Accurate and fine finish painting

Realization Made in Italy

Ability to customize (and assembly measures frame)

Rigidity and responsiveness

Accuracy and safety of driving

Dynamic qualities

Overall performance

Good compromise between comfort and performance

Negative aspects

Negligible reduction in weight compared to the previous model

Futura range series evolved than in the past

The fork of the bike being tested will not be adopted as standard

Wheels as standard (Viner) without a market

Is suitable for

Agonist: improved the qualities of rigidity and responsiveness of the chassis, a great way for the agonist.

Granfondo-cycling: still a very good compromise between comfort and performance, ideal for a bike lover.

Women: a perfect bike, thanks to the frame geometry with dedicated, custom assembly, and the possibility of having the frame made to measure.

Some recommendations and considerations

Viner suggests, for all its models, an infinite number of customizations, some useful and interesting, others only after the fashion of the moment, we analyze the most important.

- Frame made to measure: good choice for those who share particular anthropometric

- Frame lady: a compulsory choice for women, pity that there are still girls who don not understand

- Standard or compact geometry are essentially identical, the compact geometry can only be more aesthetically pleasing because it allows the seat to more towers, in terms of performance there is no difference

- Integrated seatpost: apart from the aesthetics of anything does not improve the bike, which is just off the more rigid and therefore less comfortable. Performance does not add anything to the rigidity of the chassis, also the new micro integrated seatpost tube are far lighter, with a traditional seat post you can even gain weight. Remains the obstacle to cut to size the pipe saddle and related problems of selling future bike

- BB30 bottom bracket: should be included in a frame that was created specifically to accommodate a movement BB30; developed, however, as an option, he adds very little, better choose a good crank with good bearings

- Wheels Viner: the Caesar Carbon wheels are really good, viable and better alternative to the Fulcrum Racing Zero, the problem is that while Fulcrum (or other brands such as Campagnolo and Mavic) have a fervent market, these wheels Viner no; wheels are to be purchased and keep on living with the bike. Would be better ask for Fulcrum wheels

- fork on test: it is the right fork for this bike and has a good  value for money
