The Quick Step team from this year take the Eddy Merckx bike. The Tom Boonen’s bike, customized with the colours of the Belgian flag in honour of title win, is based on the Eddy Merckx EMX-5. The bike has a frame with monocoque carbon fork 3k, also on carbon monocoque 3k. The fork of the fork have developed a double S to better absorb the blows of the road without compromising rigidity, while the head tube is very short and wide-bearing section with 1-inch and 1/2 below and 1 inch and 1/8 above. The tube is a good section, but without the hype of other models, and connects to the bottom bracket dimensioned. The tube has a section near the abundant head tube and tapers near the tube. Complex shape of the tubes of the rear frame, realized in order to have a high stiffness while allowing for optimal comfort. The bike is then assembled with Campagnolo Record, with controls, brakes, crankset, chain, sprocket, front and rear derailleur. The wheels are FFWD, with DT Swiss hubs, and supplemented with tubular Continental. The pedals are Look Carbon Blade. The seatpost is Superzero Deda Carbon, the saddle is a Prologo Scratch Pro TR. The stem is always Deda Elementi, the popular model Zero 100 Servizio Corse, while the handlebar is always Zero 100 aluminum. The handlebar tape is Prologo. A bike very light though for a champion like Tom, we would have expected the use of a Super Record group and wheels of the highest level of those, while good, are adopted. Despite this, the bike is very close to the regulatory limit and finds the greatest satisfaction of Boonen, as evidenced by his victories.
