An excellent helmet, well-finished, ventilated and secure

The Company

Selev was one of the first company to engage in the production of helmets for cyclists, since 1970, when the company was already active though its products were popular with other brands. Soriani Elsa and Elmerico Evangelisti are the two spouses to whom the creation of this company is now known all over the world thanks to their helmets. Today the company has been enriched with new skills needed to follow the whole production process of the new helmets, from their conception, design, implementation finale, but this has not made it to lose its character, which enables high care and attention to detail.

Selev’s range

Selev range is very wide, not just helmets. In addition to a beautiful collection of tapes, we recommend a new turn "Viking", a new concept of road handlebar, and then helmets from XP, the flagship of the house, the Matrix range, then move on to the models Kids, Blits, Alien, Nitro, Zenith, Time and Atom. Everyone is different in weight, the availability of various sizes and colours, ventilation holes, the size more or less cap. Also remind the number of spare parts for the helmets, the peaks for use in mtb, the anti insect net to protect against the insects to the interior. Selev XP on test

We tested an "icon" of the products Selev XP version Italian flag, a helmet well known and famous for its graphics and its technical characteristics that have taken it to be used by many champions of cycling as Danilo Di Luca, Fabiana Luperini, Alessandro Petacchi and Stefano Garzelli. The XP was submitted in 2008 and confirmed in 2009 made with the technology "in-mold." The "In Mold Assembly" achieve what was normally produced by using multiple presses, or stages of assembly, with one press by one or more satellites independent injectors (synchronized with the press), directly subservient to the mold. Thus molding overlap of two or more objects of nature and subject matter completely different from each other, and their subsequent integration. This technology leads to a helmet that is much more resistant to impact and dissipates energy better shot of better protecting our head. The ventilation is provided by 29 well-holes that allow an effective air circulation in the scalp, providing a perfect evaporation of sweat. The structure of the helmet is made of polystyrene and high density coupled with an internal padding and antibacterial anallergic. The passive visibility it is improved by two reflectors placed on the back of the helmet. The strap and a fiber made of soft, allows easy adjustment on the basis of its size. The helmet is available in two sizes: M, indicated by the head circumference 54/58 cm, and L, with head circumference 58/62 cm. The colours for the 2009 range are the green-white-red, blue-white-red, red-white-carbon, carbon-blue-white, white-silver-carbon, carbon-orange-blue, white, carbon. Is available an anti insects net. The helmet is approved according to the CE directive EN1078. The stated weight is 240 grams, we in the size M have detected 258.

The road test

The helmet Selev XP does not betray the expectations of those seeking a high-end product. It has a very high level of quality with special attention to the implementation of the cap that is free of imperfections and with a perfect coupling between the external and internal. The colours are bright and resistant to scratches. The interior is equally treated and finished. The polystyrene is compact and without smudges the and padding, easily replaceable, it's comfortable and well positioned. Although not present in our sample is possible to enter the anti insects net and for this model is not available the mtb peak. Excellent the strap, with the closure system is easy to operate and the importance of soft tissue in the area in contact with the throat. The system of regulation is effective and practical use. Excellent presence of reflectors to enhance passive visibility. The rigidity of the structure is excellent. Wearing the helmet will appreciate the comfort and interior padding, the soft area of the strap into contact with the throat. The adjustment system allows you to adjust the helmet so that it is well positioned in the head without squeezing too, but without moving. Running is now appreciates the effectiveness of the ventilation system actually well-thought and allows an effective replacement of air under the helmet to the benefit of comfort over long distances. Given the amount of air that actually goes under the helmet is good considering the adoption of the anti insect net from entering into contact with the head, especially for those who are very sensitive to bites. Pity, then, that is not available the mtb peak. For the rest we can only note the stability of the helmet that remains in the lead in every situation, which is essential to ensure effective protection in the event of a fall, and that the cap is designed to ensure effective protection to a wide area of the head.

Conclusions

The helmet Selev XP is without doubt an excellent product. Visually it stands out for the brilliance of the colours and the quality of the finishes, but is with the practical use that we appreciate the real quality. Certainly is not a light helmet, but provides protection to a large elevated area of the head. The system of regulating and closing is very good so that all are able to adjust effectively. The helmet is still so well in the lead, while not tighten or to disturb. The ventilation system is very effective. Finally a good helmet, which should be completed with mtb peak.

The price

The price is about 126 Euro.
