Company 

Selev was one of the first companies to engage the production of helmets for cycling, since 1970 when the company was already active though its products were known to other brands.

Soriani Elsa and Evangelisti Elmerico are the two spouses to whom we owe the creation of this company, which today is known throughout the world thanks to his helmet. In the past, however Selev did talk about with inventions that are now normal use, such as tape Cork, invented by Selev, which today is a leading producer of cork tape. Today the company has been enhanced with new skills, needed to monitor the entire production process of the new helmets, from their conception, design, to final realization, but this did not make the company lose its traditional character, which enables high care and attention to detail.

 Selev products

The range Selev is very wide. Besides a fine collection of tapes, we point out the innovative fold "Viking", a new concept of road bends, and then the helmets XP, the flagship of the house, the Matrix range, then move to models Kids, Blits, Mito, Alien, Nitro, Zenith and Tempo. Everyone is different in weight, the availability of various sizes and colours, ventilation holes, the size more or less extensive than the cap and, of course, the distinction of primary use. Also reported the number of spare parts for the helmets, the faceplates for use in mtb, network protection against insects to the interior. Then the range of glasses. For 2010 the Mito helmets, for the MTB, and Nitro, have been completely redesigned, while the rest of the range has received only detail upgrades. Also present a new range of eyewear.

The helmet on the test: Selev Mito

 The helmet Selev Mito was specifically designed for use in mtb and this presents a number of solutions to the particular disciple. The cover is made with the technology "In Mold Assembly", now a stand for quality helmets, which can be achieved in a single production process cover internal and external. This leads to a lighter helmet, but also more rigid and reliable, which dissipates more shots over the entire surface of the helmet, transferring, consequently, less energy to the head. Previously, in fact, the outer shell and internal factors were created separately and then joined together, with the technology "In Mold Assembly", rather, they are created simultaneously. Associated with this technology has been used a new material for the inner shell called Ultra Light Polystyrene. This is a special treatment of polystyrene with high pressure and high temperature which makes it lighter, keeping, however, unchanged all the features of robustness and ability to absorb energy transmitted by any blows. The ventilation is ensured by twentyfive holes arranged so that air can enter from the front, move between helmet and head and out the back. The padding inside the helmet is made with non-allergenic material and anti-bacterial, removable and washable, also its area was extended to the area of the neck, where there is the system adjusting the size of the helmet. The strap is made of soft fiber, allows easy adjustment according to its size. The helmet is available in one size M, suitable for heads from the circumference of 56/60 cm. The colours available are: matte black, matte silver, opaque white, white-red-black, white-blue-black, white and black, white-orange-black. The helmet is approved according to CE directive EN1078. Number, in addition, the bezel and the network anti insects. The declared weight is 255 grams, we, with our instrumentation, have detected 254 grams.

Road test

 The helmet Selev Mito, like the other products Selev, is really well built. Colour is bright and scratch-resistant, the union between the outer and inner cap perfect and without smearing. The strap well crafted, with perfect seams, excellent adjustment system placed on the neck and well crafted interior padding. Always a qualitative level, reported as the same padding is easily removable and washable, as always useful is the presence of anti-insect net or part of strap in the area in contact with the throat coated in soft tissue. The control system is effective and practical use. The rigidity of the structure is very good (at least to the touch) and the approval of a safety helmet and more on its ability to protect the head. The adjustment of the measure is easy to achieve, as well as soft and comfortable is the interior of the helmet. This allows you to adjust the helmet so well that it remains firmly in the lead, without creating nuisance or is impeding the movement of the head and mouth. The ventilation system is really good with an effective air circulation even at low speeds, as is always useful to the faceplate and the retina anti insects, supplied as standard. As a consequence the driving comfort is high even after several hours on a bike. The anti barefoot on her neck and ease of adjustment helmet keeps this is in fact very stable in the lead even more extreme mtb, in the interest of safety, as the helmet is always positioned in the most correct. Its size, then, allow a real head protection, even against a weight, evidently achieved by a careful study of the polar cap and the materials used and not removing the surface of the dome of the helmet. Not having the necessary scientific tools we can not say how hard the helmet and what are its ability to absorb shocks, approval and implementation Italian product, however, are a sure guarantee to that effect.

 Conclusions

The helmet Selev Mito has proved an excellent helmet mtb. Lightweight and durable is made with quality materials and finished with a carefully crafted commendable. Provides protection to a large area of the head and his sistem adjustment and closure is effective, enabling the helmet to stay firmly in every situation. The interior is comfortable, but also easy to remove and wash. Useful as always, the front plate and the network anti insects. A good helmet with the only limit of one size available, while ensuring that a wide range of adjustment may be too large or too small for some cyclists, the purchase price, however, justifies this production requirement. Price

The price is 90 Euro, considering the build quality and workmanship "Made in Italy" the price is more than honest.
