Company

Shimano was founded in 1921 by Shozaburo Shimano. The first product was the free wheel and from there began an unstoppable success. In 1931 the first exports and in 1956 the first Shimano gear. In 1972 opened the European headquarters, the last stage of a process of expansion in markets that saw Shimano on the European stage debut at the show in Milan in 1965. In 1982 the first group of mtb, then an expansion in the supply of aggregates and components for bicycles, while in parallel, the company diversified into other areas such as sport fishing, golf and skiing. The range of eyewear Shimano

Shimano's range of eyewear is very wide, starting from the classical glasses "fashion" from the sporty look, to the more technical and designed specifically for use in cycling. Many, then, the lenses available in several colours, but mainly different degree of protection to the light. The various frame models, in addition to style, differ in the technical solutions adopted in their implementation, the type of materials chosen and whether or not to have different lenses provided.

New Products 2010

The main change for 2010 is a new range of eyewear that allows a total adaptation of eyeglasses to the face. Assuming that every face is unique Shimano has developed a system that allows a series of adjustments to perfectly fit the shape of eyeglasses to the face of its wearer. This result was also achieved by using a new metal alloy, beta titanium, which is used for part of the frame of eyeglasses. This material is very resistant but also flexible and stable and so can bend it to fit the shape of the face of the rider without fear they fail, lose its properties or the form stamped. With this new material and this concept of achieving the glasses have created a new set of glasses called S70R, S70X, S50R and S40R.

The eyewear on test: S70X

The new eyewear S70X is offered in white with three lenses available: brown, yellow and neutral. In the package, in addition to the hard case, with insert for storing the different lenses, we also find a soft case. The frame is made of shockproof and is divided into two units: the front, which supports the lenses and the poster/lateral, consisting of the rods and their medium. The two different sections are connected at the front, with the inclusion in Beta Titanium, which allow you to tighten and enlarge the shape of eyeglasses. The rods are adjustable to different positions and have the final part of soft material and anti slip. Also the hake is adjustable and made of soft rubber is slip resistant. The lenses can be changed quickly and lock the pressure inside their guide. The eyewear has a weight, detected with our instrumentation, of 33 grams.

Road test

The new eyewear Shimano S70X is packaged in a stylish case, rigid and protective. Inside a series of compartments allow you to stay the eyewear and lens replacement in absolute safety to be carried around in your bag, also created the soft case. Changing lenses is very easy and quick, the couplings between the headquarters of the lens and the lens itself are perfect. The three lenses available, from the perfect optical quality possible to cover every need of protection from light from the sun grows stronger, the darkest days. The style is special and eyewear does not pass unnoticed, the look very aggressive, like in most sports, while others will find other models in the collection Shimano less "special". The realization is perfect, framed well made, robust and quality. The part in Beta Titaniun characterizes its appearance, unequivocally. The adjustment of eyeglasses is effective and simple to achieve, even though initially there always remains the fear of something wrong. It's actually simple and not at all difficult to adjust the shares in Beta Titanium so that the profile is perfectly fitting eyeglasses to the face. Also the hake is fully adjustable and helps to personalize the glasses to your face. The auction finally closed the various and infinite adjustment possibilities. This brings the glasses to fit perfectly on the subject's face and adapt to different facial shapes and sizes, which means, above all, very comfortable even after several hours by wearing sunglasses. Hake soft rubber is comfortable and helps to make it very stable glasses. Also auctions, with their tail rubber anti slip, allow holding the glasses and ensure maximum comfort, even after several hours. As mentioned the visual quality of the lens is perfect, as is the protection of the eye that allow. The various openings generated by the particular frame, do not diminish the protection of the eye from foreign bodies, but instead allow the circulation of air around the lens that prevents its fogging, especially uphill in winter, when you sweat a lot and the temperature very little could lead to the formation of condensing on the lens, which has never occurred during our tests, despite the adverse weather conditions. Even in the eyewear mtb behaves optimally, while remaining firmly in place and protecting the right eye from dust, wind and other foreign bodies. Even on long, fast descent on the road, where you reach higher speeds, you always have the feeling of good eye protection and stability of the mount never fails.

Conclusions

The new Shimano eyewear S70X is perfect, no obvious defects. The control system is effective in Beta Titanium and finds its perfect use for those who have turned big or small the contrary. In fact, while for faces of size "standard" its utility is limited, in other cases try it lets you adjust the eyewear to the face of the subject leading to improved comfort over long distances (especially for the big face) and Eyewear greater stability at speed or mountain bike (especially for the little face). Everyone, then, will appreciate the quality of optical lenses, eye protection they offer and the excellent air circulation that prevents the formation of condensing when the weather is hard and you sweat a lot. A pair of glasses suitable for the road to mtb. Finally, for the maniacs of the weight, we point out that the weight of eyeglasses is about 5 grams more than other models tested until now.
