It's official: Thanks to the points he collected today on the first Gpm at Pietrarossa, Davide Malacarne has won the green jersey as the leader of the mountain rankings.

It's quite an accomplishment for a young guy, who's proven he can keep up with the best of them in the group.

"This is great" said the 23 years old Italian rider "I'm really happy. I have to thank the team for the great work they did in the first part of the race and on the first Gpm when everybody worked hard to lead me up to the Gpm. It was an honor to see the whole team - and a champion like Boonen- working for me. In the final part I petered out. We were riding at a high pace and I paid for yesterday's efforts. This is the first important jersey of my career, it will always have a special place in my fondest memories."
