Joaquim Rodriguez, in the third stage from Zuia to Murgia, recaptured the yellow shirt as "Vuelta al Paìs Vasco" overall standing leader thanks to his today 10th place and, so, to the point addition compared with the old leader Kloden. The stage was won with a final attack by Alexander Vinoukourov (Astana) who anticipated the sprint of the followers won by the former World Champion Freife (Rabobank).

"Today I looked for the placing in order to re-obtain the yellow shirt", says Rodriguez. "Tomorrow there will be the queen stage and being at the top of the ranking gives me more motivations. There will be a climbing finish, so I need to take the more time I can because the ITT that will close this competition on Saturday does not suit me and I predict I will lose something. So, better to have the strongest possible leadership".
