Thor Hushovd (NOR): “I was struggling today on the climbs, but that’s normal. It was the first day in the mountains and it was very hot once again. I got into the gruppetto and just finished as best I could. I kept the green jersey, and that’s the most important thing. None of my rivals took points. On days like this, you just need to conserve your energy and get through it. I know it’s going to be hard to win the green jersey. It’s a long way to go. I just have to keep fighting.”

Daniel Lloyd (GBR): “We’ve left behind the flat stages for awhile and now we will concentrate on helping Carlos. We want to keep him out of trouble these next few days. I am not sure it’s a time to be too offensive because the final week is very difficult. My job will come early in the stages, on the flatter parts of the stages and on the early climbs.”

On Sunday’s summit finish: “We can expect to see major attacks from the GC favorites and we will do everything we can to help Carlos. It’s a day that you don’t want to lose much time to the favorites, and perhaps gain time if you can. We’re motivated to get out of these flat stages and help Carlos in GC.”

On first Tour de France: “It’s going OK. It’s been really good for the team because we won that stage with Thor on the cobblestones. It was one that we had selected before to win, so we’re very pleased with how that stage went. I had a bad crash on Monday and I’ve had a bit of a head cold, but I am feeling better now. The Tour’s a big race, but as soon as the flag drops, it feels like any other race. It’s before and after that you notice that the Tour is different. With the media presence and the number of fans, that’s when you feel the enormity of it.”
