Cycling Pro Road & MtbBaden Cooke Sixth In Portugal
Saxo Bank-SunGard's Baden Cooke showing promising condition today as he finished sixth on stage one of Volta ao Algarve. The whole peloton was however surprised by a late attack from Philippe Gilbert (Lotto) who kept the gap to the rest of the pack to the finish line where he took the overall lead. "It was with a great deal of mixed emotions when we saw the pouring hail and storm during our breakfast but it was dry when we got started with the stage. As expected, a little group riders leaped away from the field and was reinhaled shortly before the finish line. My job was to guard Alberto (Contador) through the stage and make sure he crossed the finish line with the pack. Baden (Cooke) did a good job in the finale and we are pleased with the result", commented Saxo Bank-SunGard Dane, Michael Mørkøv. Saxo Bank-SunGard Aussie, Baden Cooke is now sixth overall and the rest of the team in Portugal consists of Gustav Larsson, Alberto Contador, Juan Jose Haedo, Jesus Hernandez, Michael Mørkøv, Daniel Navarro and Matteo Tosatto.
