Born fighters

Thanks to the backing provided by José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, and its Board of Directors, today we can say that the Women and Sports Commission is a fact.

The commission, established in October 2010, with Cristina Azanza, a born fighter and elite triathlete as president, together with the wholehearted participation provided by Alicia García, Secretary General of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, FETRI, and Marisol Casado, President of the International Triathlon Union, ITU, and Member of the International Olympic Committee, together with the team involved, would like to launch a site in which to foster new proposals, new ways of appraising and acting in order to promote women’s participation in sports, and specifically in the sport of triathlon.

We count on you! Our aim is to increase the number of women participating in order to achieve an appreciation of the benefits provided by the practice of triathlon, and to involve as many women as possible in all aspects of physical activity and sports in general.
Ana Burgos is a good example: a member of the Women’s Committee and elite triathlete, she has earned a large number of national and international frontline podiums; more recently, the Spanish Triathlon Federation acknowledged her as the winner of the 2010 duathlon ranking. Today, she is a clear working-woman reference with a career in sports of over 30 years. Following a transition spell, her goal this year is to achieve an Olympic classification in order to represent Spain in the 2012 London Olympic Games. A perfect example of a born fighter!
