Makarov was elected in the UCI Management Committee

The UEC Congress took place on 6th March in Slovenian Zrece, where the election to the Management Committee of the UCI has been held on. For 2 places from the part of the UEC applied 9 European national federation's representatives, among them Igor Makarov, president of Russian Cycling Federation and head of the Russian Global Cycling Project, now consisting of 4 teams - World Tour "Katusha Team", continental team "Itera-Katusha" and two youth teams Under 23 and Under 21

In the end, Igor Makarov took 25 votes to be the first elected to the Management Committee of the UCI. David Lappartient, French Cycling Federation's president with 21 votes was the second elected to the UCI Management Committee from the part of the UEC.

With the election of Igor Makarov, Russia comes back to management of the UCI, the main cycling organization around the world. Thus, Russia, one of the biggest sports countries, could actively participate to the most important decisions in the cycling's world, influencing the cycling development both in Russia, and in European and Asian countries.

The election of Igor Makarov is the logic continuation of the development and revival of Russian cycling, which had its beginning when MGK "ITERA", "Gazprom" and "Rostechnology" created Russian Global Cycling Project: now, its 4 teams are competing on the highest national and international level, and in the same time step by step a large-scale reconstruction of the cycling inside the country is going on.

As a consequence, Russian representative in the UCI Management Committee will provide a chance for national cycling to move to a higher international level through teams creation (road, track, mountain bike, BMX), wideness of the cycling calendar, organization of the biggest cycling events, including World Tour races and, World championships.

"Now that I am part of the UCI Management Committee, I am ready to use my experience and resources for a large-scale development of cycling not only in my country, Russia, but around the Europe. I want European cycling become the one of best sports in the world", said Igor Makarov.
