NRC Champion Luis Amaran to Lead Jamis/Sutter Home Pro Cycling Team at SRAM Tour of the Gila

NRC Champion Luis Amaran will lead the Jamis/Sutter Home Pro Cycling Team at the 25th annual SRAM Tour of the Gila, which begins April 27th and concludes May 1st.

"Luis’ victory over Levi Leipheimer in stage two at last year’s Tour of the Gila put him on everyone’s radar," said Jamis/Sutter Home Directeur Sportif Sebastian Alexandre. "From then on, our secret weapon was a marked man."

Amaran, who finished 5th overall in the 2010 edition of the SRAM Tour of the Gila, went on to win the Joe Martin Stage Race and clinched the #1 ranking in USA Cycling’s individual rider standings well before the final race on the NRC calendar.

At the 2011 SRAM Tour of the Gila, Amaran will be joined by Jamis/Sutter Home teammates Tyler Wren, who finished third overall at the San Dimas Stage Race last month; Anibal Borrajo, winner of the San Dimas stage two road race, and his brother Alejandro, with whom he shared the podium at San Dimas’ stage three criterium; Fernando Antogna; Jamey Driscoll; Nick Frey; and Andy Guptill.

After the SRAM Tour of the Gila, Jamis/Sutter Home will remain in the southwest for the Joe Martin Stage Race (May 5-8) before heading to California for the Amgen Tour of California. The team has also announced plans to field squads at the Tour de Grove (May 14) and the Wilmington Grand Prix (May 21-22). Rosters for these races will be announced in the coming weeks.
