Markus Fachbachand Britta Martin have captured victory at the second edition of TriStar111 Worms- Germany and in doing so, succeeded 2010 winners Chris McCormack and Michaela Giger. For a total of 111km (1km swimming, 100km cycling and 10km running), Fachbach required just 3:17:01 hours for his TriStar debut, while Martin crossed the finish line in a time of 3:44:44 hours. Johann Moldan placed second just 1:30 minutes behind while Stefan Schmid (3:53) took the final position on the men’s podium. In the women’s race Beate Goertz (3:44:58 hours) and Belgian Debbie Verstraeten (3:45:59 hours) joined Martin on the podium. Approximately 1,000 athletes started the swim split in the Flosshafen of Worms in a “rolling start”. The fastest in the water was the British athlete Alun Woodward, who completed the 1km in 12:09 minutes. On the picturesque bike course through the vineyards of Rheinhessen, it was Fachbach who stormed to the lead with Johann Moldan proving to be his closest rival on the day. On the final 10km run Fachbach, the reigning German middle distance champion, defended his lead and fulfilled the big expectations as the race favorite. In the women's competition, the winner was decided in a close race on the 10km run. After several lead changes during the bike course, the first four women started the run within just 28 seconds of each other. The run course took the athletes into the centre of Worms where Martin was able to maintain a lead of 14 seconds to ensure victory. With nearly 1,000 athletes competing in TriStar Worms-Germany, participation doubled from the inaugural event held last year. As well as the TriStar111 event, the shorter TriStar33.3 (300m swim - 30km cycling - 3km run) was offered and attracted 100 starters. TriStar Worms-Germany has become more international with athletes representing 21 nations travelling to the Nibelungen City Worms to compete in this fun and exciting race. Race organizer Lothar Leder was very satisfied with the outcome of the event stating that the increase in numbers was extremely promising for the TriStar format. "We are happy that we reached this number of participants in just the second year of this race and that we’ve been able to convince them of TriStar and its format. We’re received extremely positive feedback which shows, that along with the support of our 500 fantastic volunteers, we managed to create a great atmosphere and experience for all the participating athletes. We aim to continue on this successful path next year", Leder commented. The third edition of TriStar Worms-Germany will take place on the 20th of May 2012.
