Cycling Pro Road & MtbRother Valley welcomes 2012 ETU Sprint Triathlon qualification event
The Rother Valley Sprint Triathlon takes place this Sunday 12 June with competitors all racing to book their place in the GE Great Britain Age Group Team for the 2012 ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships. In May, the Speedy Beaver Triathlon got the qualification process underway, delivering a compelling race that saw Richard Sumpter in the men’s and Anna Turvey in the women’s event cross the line first. The Rother Valley Sprint Triathlon is the second of three qualifiers for the 2012 ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Israel next year. The final opportunity to qualify takes place at Newbiggin Bay Sprint Triathlon on 11 September 2011. The Rother Valley Sprint Triathlon will see competitors complete a single 750m triangular lap swim in the main lake of Rother Valley Country Park, before embarking on a 25km undulating bike route. There are a number of significant climbs throughout the course, making the athletes gearing choices even more important. The final element is a 5km run that follows the two main lakes at the venue. Malcolm Westwood, British Triathlon Director for Age Group, added: “The Rother Valley Sprint Triathlon will see age group athletes embark on a challenging course as they aim to book their place at the 2012 ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships. Following the Speedy Beaver Triathlon in May, the standard and competition for places is strong, highlighting the continued growth of our modern and dynamic sport.”
