An on-form Alessandro Ballan will enjoy solid support from the BMC Racing Team as he begins defense of his Tour de Pologne title Sunday.

A marked man

Ballan finished second on Stage 15 of the Tour de France and was third at the Italian national road championships in June. "He's coming out of the Tour in really good shape," BMC Racing Team Directeur Sportif John Lelangue said. "Of course everyone will be looking to him, so he won't have the same freedom as last year. But last year, don't forget he was wearing the rainbow jersey." The seven-stage,1,276-kilometer event consists entirely of road races.
