The Gold Generation did nonot lost sight in any of the big moves in the day, and searched the first break with Spaniard Pedro Merino; the rider from Manzanares jumped in the 11th kilometer alongside compatriot Lluís Mas (VMC) to bridge the leading duo of Calvente (ACA) and Ilundain (ORB), but the big gaps ahead forced them to surrender after 70 kilometers. The group led by Joxean Fernández Matxin did not lost their hopes and took two of their riders, David Gutiérrez Gutiérrez and Johnnie Walker, into the dangerous 20-man group formed before the Alto de Bocos (Cat. 3), the last difficulty on the programme. The bunch took down the big group with 13km left and controlled the sprint won by Koldo Fernández de Larrea (EUS) in front of Maes (QST) and Romain Feillu (VAC), while Enrique Mata and Walker himself took the 6th and 8th place, respectively.
