Cycling Pro Road & MtbCervelo TestTeam Race Preview
The last highlight of this year’s cycling season kicks off this week when the 2010 UCI Road World Championships begin on Wednesday, September 29 in Melbourne, Australia. Among the large starting field both the men and women of Cervélo TestTeam will be well represented at the start line, riding for their home country in the different races. Men’s Team Six male riders (details see below), have been nominated from their national cycling federations to compete Down Under. 2009 Giro stage winner Ignatas Konovalovas (LTU) will compete in both senior races – the time trial and the road race. Sprint ace Thor Hushovd (NOR) will participate in the road race as will teammates Jeremy Hunt (GBR), Ted King (USA) and Dominique Rollin (CAN). The stagaire Daniel Teklehaymanot (ERI) will ride in his country’s colors in the U23 men road race. Beside the World Championships, another squad of Cervélo riders will be competing at the Sparkassen Giro Müsterland on Sunday October 3. Marcel Wyss (SUI) returns to racing after a long break due to an injury suffered back in June. The Sparkassen Giro is a very popular end of season race in Germany. The 208 km course will turn out many cheering spectators on the German National day. Women’s Team Most of the women riders on Cervélo TestTeam will conclude their season in Melbourne. Twelve riders were selected to ride for their national teams, presenting a formidable challenge to the rest of the starting field. However, only ten will start since Sarah Düster (GER) unfortunately broke her pelvis in a crash at the Herald Sun World Cycling Classic, the warm-up race for the world championships on Sunday and Claudia Häusler (GER) suffered head injuries in the Giro dell Toscana that left her unable to participate. In the time trial, the Cervélo riders have the best podium chances with four riders at the start line, among them Emma Pooley (GBR), who came second in the 2008 Olympic Time Trial. In the road race, ten Cervélo riders will represent their nation on the round course in Geelong, known to our riders who raced there earlier this season.
