Cycling Pro Road & MtbVacansoleil – DCM Pro Cycling Team receives UCI WorldTour team license
Today the UCI announced that as of January 1st 2011 there will be two Dutch teams in the highest division of cycling. Earlier this month Rabobank reveived a license, this afternoon it was announced that also Vacansoleil – DCM will be one of the 18 topteams for 2011. The UCI license commission evaluated the number 12 of the team’s sporting value ranking on ethical, Financial and administrative issues. This commission decided to award the winner of the 2010 UCI Europe Tour a license for the UCI WorldTour teams. The international team of Vacansoleil started on January 1st 2009 and is ahead of its own three year plan. In this plan the team should be ready to be part of the first division at the end of 2011. The great results, attractive way of racing and the constantly urge to move forward from team and sponsors caused the advantage on the plan. Team manager Daan Luijkx is proud: “From day one on we are a solid team and the whole group of staff, riders and sponsors made this possible. We were good in 2009, better in 2010 and the 2011 team has an enormous potential. The always eager team will from Tour Down Under on try to show what they are worth. After the classics we will do our first review.” The license is awarded for three years while the teams will be tested on mainly sporting criteria every year. Luijkx is happy with the duration of the license: “The three year agreement with parties like Vacansoleil, DCM and Ridley gives confidence towards the future. Despite great results we missed out on some big races in 2010. We want to avoid this by moving into the first division, keeping our core of the team together and by hiring a few top riders. With the license we are curious what the UCI and organizers will decide on the selections for the giant tours. One thing is sure; with this license we will do more big races in 2011.”
