Cycling Pro Road & MtbGB announce teams for UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics in Melbourne and Cali
British Cycling has today announced the riders it will be sending to represent Great Britain in the first two rounds of the 2010-2011 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics, held in Melbourne, Australia from 2-4 December and Cali, Columbia from 16 -18 December. Strong teams are being sent to both events, with the aim of scoring as many qualification points as early as possible for London 2012. Olympic Champions Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton, Jason Kenny and Ed Clancy will contest the Melbourne World Cup before heading to Columbia to compete in Cali. The Men’s Team Pursuit squad will focus on Melbourne whilst the Women’s Team Pursuit squad will compete in Cali. Speaking of the team selections, Performance Manager Shane Sutton said: “We are aiming to gain as many Olympic qualification points as we can as early as we can in the season, but it’s likely that other nations will be taking the same approach which is why we’ve decided to send a full strength squad to contest the first two rounds of the World Cup season. The whole squad has good form at the moment, and the recent European Track Championships has given us an indicator of what is required to be competitive at the World Cups.”
