Cycling Pro Road & MtbCervelo TestTeam Race Preview
The men’s team is in full gear this week though off in many different directions. Final preparations are underway for the Giro d’Italia squad, while another team is currently racing at home in the Tour de Romandie. Another group of riders are in the mountains doing high altitude training so they’ll be in top shape for the Tour of California and the upcoming races on their calendar. Meanwhile, the women of Cervélo TestTeam, following a week of considerable success, not to rest on their laurels, will keep up the pace with a busy week of racing in Switzerland and Luxembourg. Women’s Team That the women are already in good shape was proven this weekend with a combination of great team work and the convincing victories of Emma Pooley (GBR) at the World Cup Flèche Wallonne and Kirstin Wild (NED) who successfully won both Omloop van Borsele and the GP Stad Roeselare for the second year in a row. On Friday, April 30, five invited riders from the team, Emilie Aubry (SUI), Emma Pooley (GBR), Patricia Schwager (SUI), Sharon Laws (GBR) and Carla Ryan (AUS) will participate in the GP de Suisse/Souvenir de Magali Pache. Part of the Tour de Romandie program, this prestigious time trial race consists of a 23.4 km long course in a fight against the clock. Emma Pooley won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and will certainly be up for the challenge to show her best and fight for the podium in this field of strong starters. The third edition of the GP Elsy Jacobs takes place on Saturday, May 1 and this is the first time Cervélo TestTeam has participated. The race was established as an homage to Elsy Jacobs (LUX), the first female World Champion in 1958. Sunday, May 2 the competition weekend concludes in Luxemburg with the inaugural edition of the Grand Prix Mameranus. “The aim in these upcoming races is to polish our performances and to prepare for our trip to China, to participate in the Tour of Chongming Island, the first Women’s World Cup event, ever to be held in Asia,” said Egon van Kessel, Sports Director, Cervélo TestTeam.
