Matteo Carrara (Vacansoleil) second in stage 2 of Circuit de Lorraine (2.1)
Two riders took the early lead in the 170k long stage from Pagny sur Moselle to Chantraine. In the final they saw the bunch come back and a complete group arrived at the bottom of the final climb. Matteo Carrara seemed to take the win but in the last few meters the Italian saw his country mate Felline pass. The two riders had about fifty meters advantage on the number three. Sport director Hilaire Van Der Schueren talked about an exciting final: “The bunch was complete at the start of the climb and for a second it appeared that Carrara won. Felline put himself off Carrara in the last 50 meters after he was afraid of getting closed in by a slightly deviation of Matteo. Carrara missed out on the win after the jury decided to respect the result. It will be difficult to win the race for the second year in a row but we are confident. Saturday will be the day to take the lead.” Sergey Lagutin got seventh in the stage. Matteo Carrara is second in the general classification. Fridays stage takes the riders from Raon l'Etape to Saint-Avold over 159k.
