Q&A

A new crank for Scott Addict R2

Dear Editor,

I bought a frame Scott Addict R2 (the one black / white / red) prepared for mounting a crank Shimano Press-fit, in practice, the bottom bracket is integrated within the frame. If I want to mount a different type crank FSA do not know if I have to mount a type BB30 (new standard) or a classic crank without the caps.

Dear Reader, compliments for your bike that did not need customizations, but if you want… .. We have contacted the Italian distributors Scott, FSA and Shimano and the solution to problem is a little more difficult than expected. We must find a crank compatible with the system Shimano Press-fit that is larger different standard BB30. In particular, all the Shimano crank are totally compatible. For other products, however, it must be borne in mind is the diameter of linchpin is its length. In fact, mounting a normal crank with external caps, but depriving them, it could happen that the pivot through is too long and the crank would continue to move inside the box bottom bracket. From some research carried out it would appear, however, that the FSA cranks with external caps are the only compatible with the new standard Shimano and which have already been mounted on your model. For safety before purchasing should oversee the length of the linchpin of crank who wants to buy and which must be the same size as that currently adopted.
