Q&A

An alternative to Fondriest TF1

Hello, congratulations for the site and the information you give, point, no frills and easy to read. I want to change race bike and I would ask for advice/opinion are quite massive, 110 kg ... travels about 6000 km/year.

Currently I have a Fondriest TF1 Duo, mounted Chorus 11v, Fulcrum Racing 1, stem and handlebar 3T. I want to change a bike but I discovered that many homes do not "guarantee" about the weight of the user, or set limits:

- Specialized 100 kg

- Cannondale 120 kg

- BMC and Trek does not set limits

others do not know, nobody knows ...

I restricted the circle to three hours:

- Cannondale SuperSix HM

- Trek Madone SSL 6.7

- BMC Impec

Can you give me some advice?

Signed letter

Dear Reader, thanks for the compliments. All Companies raise the weight limit the use of these machines. This limit is included in the manual operating and maintenance or in the warranty provisions. Some companies, the most honest, regardless of their weight limit, clearly advertise the weight limit that can tolerate their frames and sometimes not, but there is no frame no weight limit. For example, Trek, for his race bike, has a weight limit of 125kg, not far from Cannondale. Only companies craft more, if not directly craftsmen are able to generate real frames without weight limits, because the frame was designed specifically for the customer. I cite only two examples, Viner Maxima with its RS to make a frame wrapped to customer specifications and then the artisans Pegoretti or Zullo, which can achieve very good steel frames for athletes from over-size frame. The BMC Impec is a great bike. I am not aware, it has the model you mentioned, of structural defects. However, I can agree that some details could be better. The two alternatives are the Trek Madone 6 Series and Cannondale SuperSix Hi Mod, two bikes are very similar, but that must be assembled with good components, to enhance their technical characteristics. The performance of the two bikes are essentially the same and the minor differences are not able to ascertain exactly what the net and absolute best. The Cannondale is more rigid and reactive, while the Trek has more comfort and ease of driving. The overall performance, with the same assembly are essentially the same. Since you desire to change, and both bear his weight perfectly, choose the one you like more.
