Q&A

Decathlon or Scott?

Dear Editor,

be directed to purchase for price range, type of use and technical characteristics, a Scott Aspect 30. In seeking advice and comparisons on Internet I come in your excellent column, and read about what you substain about Decathlon’s products.

I confess that I would not have waited so flattering reviews on a label "mass" on the part of specialists such as you are. To make it short, and also hope to contribute in the future who will read your column, I ask you what are the models currently on sale Decathlon comparable with Scott Aspect which I intend to buy and, therefore, if did not make any sense reflection more.

Dear Reader,

the choice of a bike can not exempt themselves from the evaluation of a set of individual factors as important and too often underestimated or worse not considered. I refer to the economic, the real purpose of the medium, what we expect from the future product and time that we keep the same. From this reflection can arise different opinions on this or that product. Consider a bad product, apart from its deep analysis, only because it is sold by a large chain of distribution (which is also the producer), is very superficial and confusing. Given that achieves excellent Decathlon bike, it should be weighted to reflect, to avoid easy enthusiasm, which then lead to many disappointments. The main strength of these products is the price, as already noted, and the value for money (the same price you can buy a bicycle assembly with a higher than the competition). Now we come to the negative aspects. First, the availability of sizes, usually less than the usual standard, colours, and the assembly of the models. Other savings, then, are implemented in the assembly of components as seatpost, handlebar or stem, production Decathlon (savings implemented by other manufacturers) or in the choice of a mix of components that can be contain the price (see the group Sram). Finally, we must not forget that sells at a Decathlon bike is not easy. Across the range, then, lacking the elegant and cared that are specific to certain high-range bike. All this does not affect the basic substance, but creates a different product. If we want a high-end bikes ready-race, the bike of the French group are not the ideal, as if we want a particular size, or a different colour, we expect to sell at a good price after a year of use. Are may be essential or not but lead to different final judgments. The model Rockraider Decathlon 8.1 is one that comes close to the model as the price Scott Aspect 30, under which boasts the adoption of a brake disc and V-brake, a fork with adjustable rebound and a crank, even if little better. The total weight should be about 400 grams less than the model Scott. The latter, however, has a frame to the implementation much more care, greater availability of sizes and a much greater selle the French model, in addition to a "brand" by the greater "appeal". In conclusion if we see only the economic value for the price of Rockraider 8.1 Aspect is above the 30th but this model has a range of powers (and I quote the availability of sizes) that may become decisive in the choice. When in a mtb and amateur racing bike both behave in a similar way (but with a slight advantage for the French model). Then choose the one you prefer based on a careful analysis of your needs.
