First Impressions: Campagnolo Super Record 2011

The new Campagnolo Super Record has been developed and improved a set of parts. The road test


The short test to which we were able to submit the new Campagnolo Super Record was enough to examine in detail some aspects. The new crank has maintained its legendary strength and smoothness, but now, thanks to the different profile of the gears, very easy going up and down the chain. The excursion of the levers has been contained, while the fluidity is improved, compared to the previous version, and excellent in absolute term. Now the chain passage of large chainring to the small or vice versa is still faster and more accurate, especially under stress, as the chain is strong shot. Also significantly improved quietness. The rear derailleur has maintained excellent known. So good speed, accuracy and low noise. Substantial improvements in brakes, now even more powerful and equally adaptable. The front end is very powerful, but also adaptable, while the real leap forward was made in the rear brake. The single-pivot model has slightly improved the power, scalability while maintaining a good and useful in all conditions with little grip. The version with double-pivot, it was found that some were trying all that power, so that in this configuration, the braking power of the Super Record can be considered the best. In this case, however, should be given greater attention, because the control is very sensitive and takes some experience to handle the extra braking at the limit and under conditions of low grip. Remains the same good ergonomic controls. Essentially then the 2011 version it improves the stopping power, speed and precision of the derailleur, a further weight reduction and a further flow of comands. All positive aspects that clash with a price increase of about 400 Euro and 3000 Euro that now reaches for the complete with titanium crankset. A price commensurate with the quality of the product and technical solutions adopted, but away from the competition. On line you can find, for the moment, about 1850 Euro, a price still high. The quality is great, but it remains, for the price, a niche product for enthusiasts of the brand and fine mechanics.
