Campagnolo Bora Ultra Two wheels have not been updated in version 2011, but remain among the best wheels for high-profile high-end. The rim is made of carbon fiber in 3K, with airfoil and designed only for the use of tubular, has a height of 50 mm for both the front and the rear, and are dynamically balanced. The spokes are stainless steel variable section and aerodynamic profile. The spokes, 18 in number, are arranged radial on the front and with the Campagnolo G3 pattern on the rear wheel which means the seven radial spokes on the side opposite the free wheel and 14 spokes in the wheel free side cross in the second. The hubs have a carbon fiber body, while the rear hub is oversized in the freewheel side, to improve rigidity. They are equipped with ceramic ball bearings (technology Campagnolo CULT). The wheels are available with Campagnolo or Shimano freehub body, are provided with bags and brake pads for carbon rims. They have a declared weight of 565 grams, the front wheel and 745 grams rear. We detected 560 and 740 grams for the front and the rear; locking weight 53 and 58 grams.

The road test

The Campagnolo Bora Ultra Two wheel are an example of high-end, finished with attention to detail. Very nice carbon rims, as they are well made Hubs. Considering the type of wheel you could create locking dedicated lighter than those used, although we can not say that they are heavy. Excellent standard equipment grants and dedicated brake pads. Positively content weight. There is only the tubular version, a good choice for those who come to take these wheels have well-established validity and superiority of the tube compared to other solutions. Assembly is easy and spokes stainless steel ensures a degree of reliability and less chance of accidental breakage, compared to other solutions. Very stiff the carbon rims and hubs. On the move you can appreciate the high smoothness, the best feature of these wheels, which makes them better than many competitors. This feature along with the adoption of a tubular good and excellent aerodynamics make these wheels on the fast flat sections and fast. Also good lateral stiffness that allows good acceleration out of corners, also benefited from the weight, if not a record is also less than the most high-profile wheels. For this reason, you do not suffer in slope, where the weight helps a lot. In the box you can feel a greater resistance in the corner entry, particularly those narrow, as in the rapid changes of direction. It can be an advantage to their adoption manegeable geometries, where the adoption of these wheels improves stability and security at high speeds, even in the face of a slight loss of manageability. Braking is good, with dedicated shoes, do not miss the maximum power, as the modulation, which requires some experience in driving. The brake is easily controlled and dry, with a good experience at the level of the best competitors with aluminum rims, while the wet braking power goes down quickly, as well as further undermining the scalability, requiring a lot of experience to get better performances, however less than the best aluminum wheels. A typical problem of all carbon rim and to which even these Bora Ultra Two can be subtracted. With the wind you work a lot with the side arms to keep the right line, but not so superior competitors. Finally some good wheels for high profile, very light, aerodynamic and equipped with a unique smoothness, which is why their performances are always of the highest level, is flat or on hills. They suffer in the rain, because of the carbon braking surface, and the side wind on the top rim, two critical points for this type of wheels on which the Campagnolo Bora Ultra Two do not behave worse than other competitors. A pair of wheels of the highest level, for the most demanding racers, but that will please amateurs for their performance. Unfortunately, the price remains high, at about 1900 Euros a pair, however, proportionate to performance and product quality.
