The Company

Deda group is a relatively young company, but that in a few short years has been known to impose its own brand in the world of bicycle components. The secret of success was to have focused right now on technological innovation and quality of its products, which often go to the summit of world production in their respective areas. Currently, Deda Group is composed of three separate Companies: Deda Steel, Deda Tre and Deda Elementi. Deda Steel is specialized in the production of pipes for frames, steel, aluminium, titanium or carbon, floats, bands as well as complete frames. Deda Tre deals with the production of tires, tubular and accessories for wheels, and finally, Deda Elementi is specialized in the production of seat post, stem, handlebar and ultimately also cranks. The range Deda elements is very wide, ranging from track to Mtb, from carbon monocoque to light and is able to meet the needs of all, from the most perfect cyclists who research the best in every detail to the neophyte.

The Range

Deda has divided its product for the bicycle road race in five categories: Special, Professionals, Competition, Amateurs, Enthusiastic. At the top of the range are the products of the series Special, the most refined, the basic products enthusiastic, characterized value for money and always distinguished by an excellent finish. The attack Deda Ultra Carbon belongs to the line Amatori, where occupies the position of head with regard to the attacks. A line that Amatori, who has been performing its aesthetic and its finishes, but where the use of less valuable materials has allowed the containment of the price.

The handlebar we tried: Deda Newton Shallow

The curve Newton is a classic production and also its Deda Newton attack is one of the most popular among athletes. Lightness, stiffness and reliability are its main features for which is often preferred, by professionals, the curves in carbon. Entirely made of light alloy comes in two colours: anodized black or dark grey polished (Dark Metal Polish). With an area of attack by the diameter of 31.6 mm is available in sizes of 38, 40, 42, 43, 44, 46 cm, outer-value outside. Three then the versions available: Anatomic, Shallow and Deep; each has different measures of depth and height of the fold. Anatomic so the curve has a depth of 86 millimeters (value ever center-center) and a height of 142 mm (138 mm to measure 40 centimeters) and the Shallow has a depth of 80 mm and a height of 135, while the Deep has a depth of 95 mm and a height of 145 mm. With a weight of 209 grams is one of the lightest curve of Deda’s production, a weight competitive with other achievements in that light carbon fiber.

The road test

We tried the curve Newton Shallow, a particular curve, not very widespread but that has its own reason to exist. Made to perfection is very collection with a distance between the upper and lower support reduced and a depth of the radius of the curve reduced. These dimensions may be inconvenient or ideals, depends on the size. Who has arms and big hands will find it difficult, too close to the curve, just the deep grip. It may be only one remedy, even so successful, a frame too big for their physical constitution. Instead, those with arms and particularly small hands can only be met: ergonomics is perfect for small physique who manage well to challenge the curve and using all the different positions taken. Even from a size M of hand you can begin to appreciate this particular shape, which is even more effective with smaller hands yet. Then the general behaviour is similar to the normal curve Newton, who has declared success. A curve very rigid and not reliable flexes under the pressure even more violent and allows always a perfect control. This rigidity affects some comfort, since this is not one of his best qualities. Disconnections feel all, but just a good tape, perhaps in gel, to significantly improve the situation and allow long outings, also on roads not in perfect order, with a comfort more than acceptable.

Conclusions

The handlebar Newton Shallow has proved excellent for those with small hands and arms. It has a longer collection fits perfectly with minute physique allowing everyone to exploit the various possibilities of grip. It’s light and very rigid, like the standard curve Newton, a fold of success among athletes, but also little comfort in that it fails to filter the disconnections of the road, so it is better to give it a good tape.

The price

The price is 67.00 Euros. A price which reflects the quality of the product.

Is suitable for

Athlete: is rigid and light, an handlebar created by the demands of athletes and if its conformation anthropometric suits its measures is perfect.
GF cyclist-tourist: not allow you to filter the roughness of the terrain and this is a disadvantage but it can challenge the curve in all positions, is lightweight and well finished with a tape in gel is perfect for use.
