A good braking system: powerful and light
Go to Photo Gallery
Brakes Magura Marta SL 2011 are substantially identical to the 2010 model: change disks, the new Storm SL version, a few grams lighter. The Marta SL version has all the components in light alloy, unlike the version Magnesium as the name suggests take magnesium parts, lighter. The levers are made of carbon fiber and have the ability to adjust the lever distance from the handlebars. The gripper has block structure to improve rigidity and reduce weight. Storm SL discs have diameters of 203, 180, 160, and just from 2011, 140mm. Two colors available Full Black or Red, as in the photos you see a Blue version not yet on the market. The declared weight is 295 grams, in a lighter version.
The road test
The Magura Marta SL are well made. Good choice of different colors. Levers are made with a proper ergonomic profile. Too bad that by the lever to adjust the distance should be around with a key and was not adopted a practice scroll wheel. This means that you can not adjust the travel distance of the lever from the handlebars, granted a special feature, however, from other competitors, and that in some situations it might be very useful. The assembly, disassembly and maintenance of the entire system is easy. The braking power, with 160 mm discs, is excellent, among the best ever. Just the index finger for stopping power and decided to meet anyone. This power has not gone to the expense of scalability, still valid and to allow for a perfect control of braking even in the wet or mud. The trip lever is very limited, as is the pressure required to obtain heavy braking. This requires a short training period, especially if you're used to other braking systems. Excellent consistency of performance, with behaviour that is secure, consistent and predictable with rain or mud. During the long test, even on long runs we have not had any problems of fading, the levers they have extended their run. In conclusion an excellent braking system, power and scalability. Good weight contented, and to criticize the lack of a convenient scroll wheel to quickly adjust the distance of the levers from the handlebars. The price is around 218 Euros for the kit front wheel and about 241 Euro for the complete rear wheel; slightly more than some competitors, but justified by the quality of the product and its performance.
