On test: Shimano Ultegra Di2

Great features, but weighs and costs too much

We have previously described the Shimano Ultegra Di2, which inherits from the previous Ultegra crankset, the sprocket, chain and brakes, and new commands are, the gearbox and the front derailleur. Compared with the Dura-Ace Di2, we have carried out a series of technical changes, there are now only two wires, against the previous four, look more attractive to producers who see bikes simplified assembly, that the mere enthusiast.

Simplified the system for diagnosis, now for the mechanic, it is easier to find the taste, by connecting to the computer system and not with the appropriate diagnostic tool. Still made a series of "simplification" in materials and surface finish of the same, allowing a substantial reduction in costs, but compared to some weight gain.

These weights declared for the four main components:
Controls: 313g
Rear derailleur: 270g
Front derailleur: 162g
Battery: 71g
These weights reported for the same components Dura Ace Di2:
Controls: 255g
Rear derailleur: 225g
Front derailleur: 124g
Battery: 71g
These weights reported for the same Dura Ace components:
Controls: 379g
Rear derailleur: 166g
Front derailleur: 67g
