Shimano Dura Ace wheels are offered in several versions, high and low profile clincher and tubular aluminum or carbon rims. The trial version has high-profile rim for clincher carbon and aluminum braking track, a wheel perfect for the enthusiast that wants a wheel by the excellent aerodynamics, but reliable and with the convenience of clincher. The hubs are CNC machined aluminum, spokes arranged radially. The freehub body is titanium. The spokes are butted steel 2/1.5/2 mm and red anodized aluminum nipples, 16 on the front wheel and 20 on the back. The rim is the carbon profile of 50 mm. The declared weight is 755 grams for the front wheel and 970 grams for the rear, without blockages that are made of aluminum. We have a weight of 760 grams for the front wheel and 975 grams for the rear, locks that weigh 55 grams and 65 grams front and rear.

The road test

Dura Ace wheels are fully realized with their hubs are a perfect example of perfect quality and surface finish. There are also excellent carbon rims and perfect their union with the aluminum part. Technically the nice titanium freehub. High, however, the weight, but in line with the technique similar wheels. Optimal solution of aluminum braking track because it ensures a more adaptable and safe braking as well as greater reliability and durability of the rim itself. Always the best solution to the clincher, mostly used by enthusiasts. The installation does not create any problems. Moving appreciates the excellent aerodynamics of wheels that allows excellent performance on the straight, high speeds and flat. The speed performance are also favored by the excellent smoothness and the overall rigidity of the hubs of the wheels. Thus able to pass on the floor all the power for the provision of relief. New Century suffer a bit, because of the weight content, especially when starting from low speeds. The wheels are not ideal for narrow and winding paths, where they display a cornering, precise and gradual, but slow. Even uphill suffers not so obvious, but the weight is felt even if sliding and lateral stiffness of the wheel helps a lot. Where to give the best, however, is the plain and slight hill, where once dropped allow high speeds to keep a very low energy consumption. Their inertia, then, due to reduced weight, lets not lose speed quickly, help to maintain cruising speed in short false plans small or short and easy climb. Excellent braking, thanks to the aluminum track, more powerful and adaptable, even in the wet. Wheels are obviously sensitive to side winds, where their effectiveness decreases significantly. Perfect, but stability at high speed and direction in the fast corners. Finally a pair of wheels of great build quality and reliability. Perfect for trails in the plains, hills and mild in all locations where the speed was always very high. Perfect for an amateur who wants the performance levels of high-profile wheels, but without sacrificing the convenience of clincher and reliability and longevity of the typical aluminum wheels. The price of 1100 Euro for the pair is adapted to the dynamics of the wheels.
